Proposed Zoo/Aquarium Trips For 2010

In February or March I hope to head to Adelaide to see the Giant Pandas. Will also take in Monarto, Cleland and Bredl's at Renmark. Then down to Kangaroo Island for a few days before headng back to Sydney. If I have enough timew I might pop up to Uluru and the Alice - Alice Springs Reptile Centre and the Desert Park.

And of course, regular visits to Taronga.

:p

In March I did get to go to Adelaide (and saw the Giant Pandas), and took in Monarto, Cleland and Bredl's, as well as a few days on Kangaroo Island (but didn't get up to Uluru or the Alice). Also took in along the way Wagga Wagga Zoo, Dundee's, Parndana, Urumbirra, Raptor Domain, Kangaroo island Marine Centre, Warrawong and Gorge.

In June I went up to Brisbane and the Gold Coast and visited Darling Downs, Lone Pine, Seaworld, Fleay's and Currumbin.

The usual visits to Taronga during the year; in December a quick visit to the Melbourne Aquarium; and on New Years Day I spent a few hours at Featherdale.

And, although it's not a zoo, I spent a week in Niue in October.

Well being Christmas Eve, some may think it a bit early for New Year's resolutions, but I thought it interesting to know some of the probable, not necessarily for certain, zoo trips of our ZooChat family out there for 2010.

My most probable plans for 2010 include, a getaway weekend trip with my wife to Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Zoo. Hopefully January or February. And while we're in the cooler months, a trip to the Living Desert, in Palm Desert, Ca. Also high on my list for next year is the Gibbon Conservation/Research Center here in my very own backyard of Santa Clarita; literally less than 4 miles away from me.

I'm also planning a getaway to Phoenix AZ, but that has to be during cooler weather, like Palm Desert, as well. And with my Niece playing as a starting guard for the WNBA Minnesota Timberwolves, my wife and I figure it's high time we visited Minnesota for one of her home games. Minnesota Zoo is high on my list of things to do while there. We may possibly take in games to see her in Sacramento, Phoenix and Seattle, as well as when she visits here in LA at the Staples Center. More possible zoo visiting opportunities. But her schedule makes all visits out-of-town to see her tentative.

And lastly, another trip to St. Louis for one of my wife's women's conferences is almost certain next year, so I'll be taking in a full day at the St. Louis Zoo for sure. What a great zoo to see for free!

Well those are my plans for next year, but whose to say what surprise trips are also in store?

What are your travel plans fellow ZooChatters? All of which should include zoo/aquarium visits of course. :)

Well, I actually did quite well in 2010. I did get back to Santa Barbara and St. Louis. And saw the Phoenix and Living Desert zoos for the first time as planned. If all goes well, I should make it to the Minnesota and St. Paul Zoos this year, since my niece still plays for their women's WNBA Lynx basketball team (not the NBA men's team the Timberwolves). And with the Gibbon Conservation/Research Center still less than 5 miles from my home, it's just a matter of the right date opening up for visitors with me that fit my schedule; the public is only invited on selected dates.

Along with the usual bundle of Marwell, New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park visits and Hawk Conservancy visits, my target this year will be to visit Whipsnade for the first time; something we originally planned for Easter but the weather was always crap! We may be going to Scotland again meaning second visits to Edinburgh and the HWP, and I definately want to return to the Aspinall Parks. And of course, there'll be our annual Longleat trip.

Of course, my big highlight will be my Keeper for a Day at Marwell on the 30th June: Also the day before my prom, so a good shower will be needed after that! :D

All came as hoped for except for the Scotland trip; but we're 95% sure we'll be doing that this year before I go to Kenya! :D

I have visited Attica Zoo in Spata, Greece 3-4 times. Every time I go there, I have a wonderful time. In my last visit, there was an attraction with dolphins. It was fantastic!

During my Christmas holidays, I visited Budapest, where is an amazing zoo with elephants and thousands other species. Unfortunately, the bad weather didn’t let me visit it. I hope I visit Budapest again soon!

Also, I would like to visit Spain’s famous Aquarium.

I didn't write in this thread last year as I joined the board half way into the year. However, I mostly went to every zoo I was thinking about (at least in the East Coast). I did end up going to Erie Zoo, Cleveland Zoo, Pittsburgh Zoo, Columbus Zoo, and Rosamond Park Zoo. I didn't end up going to Philadelphia in the fall like I wanted, but it's in the works. And of course I always thought about going to big ones like San Diego, Henry Doorly, St. Louis, and a lot of other that are in the Top 60 US Zoos book.

I'm not sure if we'll have a separate thread for 2011, so I thought I'd just continue this year's predictions here.

2011:
-Philadelphia Zoo (planned in March)
-Detroit Zoo (may or may not happen)
-Toledo Zoo (probably happen around the same time as Detroit)
-Akron Zoo (I'd probably stop here if I decide to return to Cleveland to see their new African Elephant exhibit)

And returns:
-Buffalo Zoo (of course)
-Seneca Park (probably seasonally)
-Cleveland Zoo
-Erie Zoo

I got to go to more zoos in 2010 than I ever have before KC, Omaha, St. Louis, Sedgwick County, D.C., Topeka, NAIB, so pretty good year for me

-Ft. Worth Zoo
-Dallas World Aquarium
-Minnesota Zoo (may or may not happen)

And returns:
-Kansas City Zoo (of course)
-Topeka Zoo (probably seasonally)

-St. Louis Zoo
-Henry Doorly Zoo
