I have two elephants recorded as residing at the Ralph Mitchell Zoo in Independence, Kansas.
Suzy (Susie) was born in 1951 in Sri Lanka. She was imported by the Miami Rare Bird and Game Farm in New York and later arrived in Kansas on 07/03/1956. She resided at the zoo until her transfer to the Metro Washington Park Zoo in Portland, Oregon, on 11/05/1974. She died there on 06/02/1988.

Lois was born wild in 1971. She was first acquired for the Dailey Brothers Circus but was relocated to the Ralph Mitchell Zoo on 04/19/1974. She resided at the zoo until her death on 01/21/1994 resulting from a foot infection.

It is interesting to note both elephants were esentially kept as single individuals during their time at the zoo in Independence, minus roughly a six month overlap at which time Suzy and Lois were kept together before Suzy's transfer to Portland.
Following the death of Lois, the elephant exhibit was permanently closed. The Ralph Mitchell Zoo no longer displays elephants.
Does anyone have further information regarding these two individuals, or pictures of them from the past? Thank you for any assistance provided.
