Out of curiosity, which species/subspecies of red deer/elk are in captivity in the USA? I seem to remember reading somewhere here that the AZA was recommending just breeding Bactrian deer but it seems like elk (particularly the Rocky Mountain variety) are fairly common. What types are there programs for and what types have you all seen?
