Here is a very interesting article about the discovery of wild canids on Galveston Island (Texas) that may be red wolves or red wolf and coyote hybrids (or maybe not). Initial DNA tests confirm they have genes not present in the current captive (and reintroduced) red wolf population. There is a particularly interesting debate at the end about whether the Endangered Species Act should be updated to accommodate hybrid animals.
