Reference and other animal books

What animal books do you have sitting on your shelves?

For reference, I enjoy David McDonald's Encyclopedia of Mammals very much.

For current writers about wildlife, I like David Quammen's "Song of the Dodo" and "Monster of God".

I am currently reading about the Jacobsen's Organ. I am also reading a book about our sense of smell called "Scent of Desire".

Elephants: "Why Elephants Weep" ; "Silent Thunder" Katy Payne
Wolves: "Of Wolves and Men" Barry Lopez
Baboons: "Almost Human" Shirley Strum

(there is a separate thread about books on zoos so I won't mention those books here)

Can anyone recommend a good reference book on reptiles?

Is there any major difference between the very expensive hardback editions of David McDonald's Encyclopedia of Mammals and the £12 paperback? The paperback is a recent second edition (Sept 2009) so is presumably up-to-date and has the same 900+ pages as the hardbacks.

I've just been reading McDonald's book on carnivores, 'The Velvet Claw', btw, which is a very entertaining & informative read for the interested general reader (though it is about 10 years old now and some of the classifications have naturally been re-thought).
