Just 2 updates from my visits this afternoon:

The mixed Tomistoma & Asian turtles' exhibit was under renovation. When I sought clarification from a friend who used to work with the herp team, he mentioned that it was possibly for an installation of new keeper-safe barriers as the Tomi continues to get larger.

I also noticed 3 very large Batagur borneoensis (2.1) in the Indian gharial exhibit. I suspect these were the same individuals which used to inhabit the Proboscis Monkey and Bornean Marsh enclosures in the past.

Overall, I was impressed by the new Titicaca frogs, along with the return of gilded shovelnose catfish (Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii) in the silver arowana pond.

Oh! Also noticed the Aba Aba trailing the goliath tiger quite closely. At one point, it even attempted to nip the old bugger's caudal fin.

Typical territorial behaviour of that species. Tsk tsk tsk...

@Casuarius_casuarius There's only one of the goliath tigerfish left in the nile tank, right? On a related note, what happened to the common tigerfish? I seem to recall them being moved to the old snapping turtle exhibit and then dying out.

Yeap, only one goliath remaining in the Nile tank currently. Not sure about the fate of the vittatus, but it does potentially open the door for future acquisitions of the smaller and leaner Hydrocynus forskahlii.

The new ichthyo curator is a big fish geek after all. (just like me ! ;))

Btw, most of the piraibas in the River Wonders' collection are true filamentosums, with the exception of one possible hybrid (the very chunky, silver catfish in the main flooded forest tank).

B. capapretum
tend to display much wider dorsal spots and rarely grow beyond 3 - 4 feet.
And together with the gorgeous B. juruense, both species have not been imported into the Southeast Asian ornamental fish markets for close to a decade, since around 2013/14.

Most capas currently being traded in shops are actually true piraibas / hybrids too.

Is the giant stingray from Mekong or Australia.

Has there been any clarification on the Haplochromis species at River Wonders?
Upon my visit a few months ago, I saw:
- Haplochromis obliquidens
- Haplochromis sp. "Hippo Point Salmon"

I know that there should also be some Haplochromis sp. "Thick Skin" in there. The species is often labelled as CH44, although this also refers to Haplochromis sp. 'Migori", but I saw neither in the tank. The signage at River Wonders uses "Thick Skin" as a variation of obliquidens, but I'm pretty sure I just saw the normal obliquidens. On top of that, there were at least two other Haplochromis that I wasn't able to identify. It's those last ones that I'm looking for. Does anyone know more about it?
