San Antonio Zoo Elephants In The Future

Hi! I’ve been wondering recently that I know that the zoo plans on bringing back elephants somewhere in the future. When they do is it more likely for them to have African or Asian? And once they do where do they plan on building the exhibit? Also does anyone know when the zoo will most likely release the plans and overall announce that they will be making a new elephant exhibit? I understand that there’s not been Al or of info released about this but just wondering if anyone knows about this or has any ideas. Thanks!

the zoo plans on bringing Asian Elephants back to the zoo as part of an Asia expansion on the unused land on the other side of the highway. A recent interview stated that elephants are next major project after the new Western Lowland Gorilla habitat is finished. That being said construction takes time I wouldn't expect the elephants to return for at least 5 years. Originally the zoo was gonna bring in African elephants but has seemingly decided to do an Asia precinct with Asian Elephants instead. Currently no plans on what this precinct will look like have been shown off.

here's one of the articles talking about the gorilla and savannah exhibits. the very bottom mentions the elephants return. the article also mentions how they have researched the safari parks at Omaha and St. Louis to inspire their future safari park project. Some very exciting prospects for the San Antonio Zoo over the next 5 to 10 years!
