San Diego Zoo Safari Park San Diego Zoo Safari Park News 2023

Yes, it appears that it is the old bonobo exhibit (which apparently was originally a mandrill exhibit before it became a bonobo exhibit back when it first opened, if I remember my history correctly).

If you're remembrance of history is wrong so is mine, because that's how I remember, mandrills then later bonobos.

The latest San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Journal has an article on the upcoming Denny Sanford Elephant Valley on pgs 24-25 with a fund raising goal of $60 million. They have so far raised $38 million. San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Journal January 2023
I was waiting to see if they made mention of it when my Journal arrived via mail but this is awesome to see :p I was told by staff and docents less than a year ago that both yards are going to be renovated but will work on each yard one at a time.

One main thing they hope to do is to “reconnect” the Safari Park into a loop. If I remember correctly, I was told that it would connect at the the end of Tiger Trail and continue on through Elephant Valley to avoid backtracking. Also we should anticipate times where the herd may not be out at all during construction.

Well it could also be a good thing they got rid of the program. With a good greater one horned rhino program and a massive southern white rhino program and the northern white rhino surrogacy research program the park already had a lot going on in terms of Rhinos. By getting rid of the Black Rhino program they can now allocate more time, resources, land, and energy into the other two programs.

Do you know how many white rhinos and Indian rhinos the Safari Park is currently home to? Also, do you know how many rhinos are typically born there each year?
