There's Chacoan Peccary at the Safari Park?

Yes they are on the app. They can be found across from the babirusa. There's Chacoan Peccary at the Safari Park?
Downsizing can mean two things though. The first is the one mostly discussed, holding less species, but zoos can also downsize by holding more smaller species and less large ones. If I was to guess, Bronx might have less large species now and have made gains in birds, reptiles, and small mammals to counteract that? It’s a small note but the Bronx Zoo does not have less species now than it did in the past 40 years. I quickly compared the 1982 and 2016 census of the zoo and the species numbers are pretty close. In the early 2000’s the zoos collection definetly shrunk but especially for birds it has expanded in recent years. This does not even include the city zoos, which hold many species not kept at the Bronx Zoo.
What does St. Louis have for Gaur? I seem to remember seeing one there a few years ago. With the San Diego additions and births from over the last year, the zoo should have around 30 animals now, yes. Miami has a pair and Gladys Porter has a small herd, and I've heard conflicting reports on whether Omaha still has some kept at their off-site facility or not as well, but afaik nobody else is breeding them atm. The population sits between 40-50 animals total, so there really is a chance for them (that's a lot more than some SSP programs number!) but without commitment from other institutions it's unlikely the population will survive long-term. It's really a crying shame that SDZSP has ended their program with the species, as they are a unique, highly endangered species. I know the park has a much closer relationship with Banteng and the international program for that species, though, so maybe the move makes sense. Still, with the EAZA recommending Gaur be replaced with Banteng, too, and with the Banteng program being successfully managed across four continents, the Gaur really seems to be getting the short end of the stick.

Might I ask how the zoo increased its collection in that time. If I'm correct that's when they got rid of many of the Horn and Hoof Mesa species. The Safari Park got a few new species but I believe some of those were from the zoo.Tbh since the budget cuts and closures between 2009-2012, I think they've only increased their number of megafauna (as in, increased since having had their collection decline in those three year). They're definitely increased the diversity of small reptiles and birds on-exhibit in that time as well, though tbh their small mammal collection may have declined slightly. I can give a run down via PM or on the Bronx thread if you'd like. I wouldn't mind discussing the points about Bronx brought up here if anyone wants, but I do not want to further derail this thread.
