Science fiction/zoo novel

Has anyone read the novel TARONGA, written by Victor Kelleher and set (not surprisingly) in Taronga Zoo, Sydney, in the post-apocalyptic future when armed gangs roam? A small group of young people live in the zoo, maintaining it and living on the animals. To keep out roaming bands of marauders they release the tigers each night, and the hero, Ben, who can "communicate" with animals, has the job of re-caging them each morning so that the other animals can be looked after, particularly dangerous since the big male tiger hates him..........

OK, so its fanciful hokum, but surprisingly well written and quite scary in parts.

Anyone read it?

There is a book called Singapore brefly read it when visiting my cousins, I loved the text and pages on Chawangs the pictures were so crisp and breath taking,
It also tells the story of that of keeper that was nearly gored to death, and he comes back because of the bond he shares with the magnificent tusker,
