Auckland Zoo sealion/seals

does anyone have any information about the sealions at auckland zoo. names,date of birth,parents,where they were born.
 
The two Californian sea lions, Scuttle and Kipper share their enclosure with two New Zealand fur seals (Kaiako and Moana) and a sub-Antarctic fur seal called, Orua. No more details sorry, try e-mailing the zoo...
 
I'm pretty sure Scuttle is a male and Kipper a female, not sure about the others, possibly two of them are males...
 
Both Californian Sea Lions were born at the zoo -
Scuttle (m) de-sexed 13/12/1991
Kipper (f) 13/12/1993
- they share the same father (Liquorice) but have different mothers
 
Sinka was the mother of Scuttles (M1991) and Kline was the mother of Keel (F1991) and Kipper (F1993). Keel died in 2004.

One of them is a sub-antarctic fur seal and the other two are NZ fur seals but I cant remember which is which
 
I thought Scuttle had been desexed as he has no crest on his head. When I was a toddler in the 1980s the entire male Liquorice and the females Sinka and Kline must have been the ones I saw. I don't remember them but my mother and grandmother do. When did Liquorice pass away?
 
Yes you are correct, SCUTTLE is de-sexed.
I am not sure when LIQUORICE passed away, but he was transferred to Zoo Negara, Malaysia, in 1993 with two of his daughters SLEEK and KELP, both 3 years old at the time of transfer.

I also just heard that Auckland baby male NZ fur seal fron raglon he is curantly in qurintene and hasnt been named yet

I read the Auckland zoo is celebrating seaweek. Thats really good. But they are the only zoo in the country with a marine precinct. Why some of the other zoos in the country aquire marine precincts as well? I live in Dunedin which is so far away from Auckland. I wish I could go to Auckland and do something for seaweek. There is not much to do in Dunedin.

I suspect the Portobello aquarium will be doing something for Seaweek. Most of them do (naturally).

Just to make things right here. Orua and Kaioko are the male seals and Moana is the female. Orua is the sub-antarctic fur seal. Scuttles and Kipper are both still a live and today there is another NZ fur seal called Atamai. So that is 6 animals in total.
 
I spoke to an Auckland Zoo host recently who said that with six pinnipeds, they are at all full capacity. It is never Auckland's intention to breed with the native seals and they are unwilling to import the last remaining female california sea lion at Marineland (8 year old Dakota). I think this is a shame as she would benefit from the female company of Kipper and from what I've observed, the california species are the ones entertaining the visitors at the underwater viewing window while the native species bask in the sun on the rocks. That viewing window is going to be very boring when Scuttles (21) and Kipper (19) pass away.
