A week and a half ago, I happened to see the PBS show Nature which was an episode on captive breeding to save very rare species. It was fantastic! :) Even showed the pairing of two large turtles in China I had never heard of - the last two of their species. Female from one zoo was sent to join male at another zoo (with a much better exhibit). Also featured iberian lynx, black-footed ferret, and a Qatari bird and rare animal breeding center. Very worthwhile viewing; here's a link: The Loneliest Animals - Video: Full Episode - Endangered Species - Captive Breeding | Nature

I saw this special a couple weeks ago, it was excellent. So many surprising things on it, too; I never knew Iberian lynx offspring attacked each other!
