There was a story on our local news last night about a pair of silvery gibbons at Mogo. I didn't see the full story but it appears that they may have bred. Did anyone see the story?

I was going to post and ask 'are you sure it wasn't taronga as I don't think Mogo has silvery gibbons'. Then I did a quick google and several tourists sites mention Mogo has silvery gibbons, though not their website (which is still under construction). I looked at ISIS and sure enough they are listed as having a pair, but Taronga only has a female. When did Mogo get its pair, which animals are they and what has happened to Tarongas male?

further to this here are some links to pictures.

The pair are Layar and Arjuna.
The male, Arjuna was born at Perth and the female, Layar came from Howletts. They were matched up at Perth and then sent to Mogo in 2008.

Thanks Jay. It's great to see Mogo Zoo continuing to have success when it comes to breeding animals. I didn't know they had silvery gibbons. I thought it was only Taronga and Perth.
Didn't know Taronga only has one animal now. What happened?

And thanks for bringing this to my attention Boof, as I was completely unaware that Mogo has silverys. That little zoo continues to have great success with breeding.
I don't know what is going on with Taronga, it may just be an error on the ISIS records.

I was out at Mogo on Thursday and the baby is on display in the first enclosure out the front, straight out of administration that previously held the servals. Layar was very comfortable displaying the bub to the public but Arjuna was quite defensive throughout the day, constantly trying to bluff people out. I can upload a picture if wanted.

Personally I think that that particular enclosure is a bit small for gibbons, no wonder Arjuna was being so protective, people would have been very close to them.
