Opened in 1971 as its own attraction, Simba Safari was the first safari park in São Paulo, mainly focused on the car ride amongst lions. During its first 20 years of operation, the park made a partnership with the city's zoo, receiving multiple animals to boost the visitor's experience, such as giraffes, camels, bears, tigers, antelopes and many other species, until until it was "closed" in 2001 due to conflicts with the owners and the zoo. In June of the same year, the park was reopened, this time under the administration of the zoo itself and under the new name of "Zoo Safari", where it was sold to a private initiative alongside the zoo in 2021, and closed its doors in 2023 to be totally refurbished.
And this week, after spending about two years closed, the safari reopened its doors and adopted its original name: Simba Safari. With a total area of 80.000 square meters and a three kilometer route, the park now (supposedly) offers a totally new experience to its visitors, with about 200 animals of 40 different species. In this thread, news and more information about this "new" park will be shared.
First of all things, I will be sharing all the currently shown/known species that are residing in the safari. A full list of which animals can be seen is present on the wagons where the tour is made, but I wasn't able to see/identify a few of them. Here's the species list (by continents):
Africa:
*Species not seen and/or shown yet outside of the species signs and promotional material
There's just a few species not reveladed yet, and some of the species and/or subpspecies described in the list above might be wrong, but since the park is brand new, a lot of things are subjected to change in the future. Here's some links of their official website and instagram profile, alongside some addicional footage and informations:
