Closed Slow Zoochat

A couple of times in the last few days I've written a lengthy or considered comment, gone to post it and found I can't get onto the site. When I do get on, I find the post was never made. Very frustrating!

:)

And another thing! Since the migration (what an apt word for a forum about animals), I've not received emails telling me about new private messages or new posts on threads I've contributed to.

There's still something wrong...

Delay on every action.....click link, wait 30 seconds until it loads....like before broadband, even on scrolling.....dosn't happen on other websites...

That's because you are using AOL for your email. We currently have an issue with them blocking emails from the IP address the server now uses. It seems that someone in the past used this address for spam and AOL still have a block in place.

Our hosting company has requested that the block be removed.

Do you have another email address you can use in the meantime ?

Since the migration, it's been running about 300% faster than it was for me before we changed, things have definitely improved from my end.

It may be there is some temporary network congestion causing problems at your end ?

There is still a bit of optimisation work I'd like to do on the site which should help with speed. Part of the problem right now is that traffic is growing at quite a rapid rate and as a result, things that weren't an issue before are now starting to slow things down ... hence the need for further optimisation work.

The web can be inherently unreliable and is not an ideal platform for applications like we are using it for now - it was never designed that way!

As such - when writing long posts I tend to make a copy of what I write (just copy-and-paste it into Notepad) before I hit submit. I sometimes have problems with accidentally hitting the "page back" arrow on my laptop which is right next to the cursor keys - that can sometimes cause everything I've just typed to be lost ... again this is avoided by copy-and-paste into Notepad while I'm writing - although I find that Firefox is generally much more forgiving in many situations like this.

I know some people who write their posts in Word and copy and paste. I don't actually recommend this because Word can sometimes insert strange characters into your posts ... but in general it does work pretty well and the problems are generally minor and not worth worrying about. I like Notepad better because it is faster and simpler.

I've been trying for a few days to access the site with no luck - just a message telling me it's migrating. This morning I've googled Zoochat and have managed to get on via the Forums page, but not via the Home page.

It's likely that your problems are due to an over-zealous caching system somewhere. The system is actually now set to NOT show you the page about migration but rather redirect you to the main site. If your browser is still showing you the migration page, it means it is not checking for updates like it should.

Try forcing a page refresh if you see that page: CTRL+F5 ... that should tell your browser to ignore the cache and go check for an updated version of the file.

Sometimes it is the network that has cached the file and is not checking for updates. That is bad network design and is not ideal for sites like this which are extremely dynamic. Perhaps get yourself a better ISP

Thanks Sim. Much better today so probably a problem at my end as you say...:):)

I found I had this problem, when it was first moved to the new server. Sim suggested to me to re-create the bookmark (Favourite) and it has worked fine. Had to do it again today but I now I have no problems at all.

I am still successfully using my Zoo Beat bookmark.

It's all working perfectly for me now:)
