small, medium and large zoos

I have always thought that all zoos shouldn't be compared because the all come in different sizes. So i have 3 catagories to divide zoos into by there size. Please write what your favorite in each catogory is.

small ( less than 10 acres)- Central Park Zoo
medium (10-100 acres)-philladelphia
large (more than 100 acres)- Bronx Zoo

Your small category seems too small - how many zoos are less than ten acres (only a handful). Your medium category is too wide of a range; 10-100 acres covers almost every major zoo in the country.

I would suggest the following breakdown:

Small - less than 30 acres
Medium - 30-80 acres
Large - over 80 acres

The new breakdown is now:
Small - less than 30 acres
Medium - 30-80 acres
Large - over 80 acres
(Thank you Arizona Docent)

Anyone want to list how many acres all the zoos are so we can choose which is our favorite in each category? =)

(Off the top of my head without giving much thought to it)

small - Reid Park Zoo
medium - Memphis Zoo
large - Northwest Trek

Small-- Arizona Sonora Desert Museum
Medium--Woodland Park (actually 90 acres)
Large--Bronx

I'd personally look at zoos by type rather than size, for instance:

Major zoos
Local zoos
Various types of specialist zoo:
- Open range
- Indiginious fauna
- Childrens farms
- Taxon specific eg Birds, Reptiles, Insects
Aquariums.

Size is far from specific enough. How do you compare for instance Berlin Zoo with 84 acres, 1,554 species, and over 17,000 animals with Bronx Zoo with 265 acres, 650 species and 4000 animals, or San Diego with 100 acres, 800 species and 4000 animals? (all Wikipedia figures) Which is the largest? Should Berlin and Bronx really be in different categories?

@MRJ - How do you compare such widely varying facilities? The starting thread said list your favorite, not list the best.

My point exactly. I just prefer to compare like with like. But I'll leave it there.

So, Berlin is largest by collection, correct?

And would you consider a zoo a major zoo even if it had indigenous fauna, or is it an indigenous animal zoo just because it has indigenous species?
Like how you would call an egg-laying mammal a monotreme no matter what other features it has.
*forgive me if that statement is false :)*

These are my favorites:

Small - Buffalo Zoo
Medium - Racine Zoo
Large - Columbus Zoo

Small - Lincoln Park Zoo (I think it would fit into this category)

Medium - Saint Louis Zoo

Large - Kansas City or Brookfield (Too tough to decide)
