Something to bring back?

Something I have thought about for a few days now.
Having gone through some of the previous species lists on Zootierliste I was wondering what species people would like brought back to a collection that they once held that would enhance the collection today.
I will start this off by saying DUDLEY ZOO should bring back Ruppell’s griffon vultures and have them display in the castle courtyard.
These were originally in a small circular exhibit just before were the Spider monkeys are now.
I think they would make a great addition especially for the displays in the courtyard imagine a large bird of prey flying in the courtyard and perching around the courtyard giving people the chance to see a great bird doing what comes natural.
There are so many others that could improve the collection but as I felt Ruppell’s griffon vultures would be the best for very little outlay.

Paignton should bring back Great Indian Hornbill, Abyssinian Colobus, Pudu, Binturong, Green Oropendola, Barbary Sheep & Chough.

Colchester- jaguars/ Snow leopards or tapirs

Marwell- Lions

Africa Alive- Hyena/ chimps

Banham- Sun bear

Whipsnade - Hyaena ( any species, preferably brown)
London - Tasmanian Devil (King Penguin) Thylacine? Javan rhino?
Colchester - Fossa ( fishing Cat?)
Dudley - Brown Bear
Marwell - Malayan Tapir (sand cat or asiatic lion maybe)
Twycross - proboscis monkey (realistically dhole or striped Hyaena)
Bristol - Little blue penguin
Paignton - Elephant
Newquay - Fossa
Chester - Common Hippo
Port Lympne - Black footed cat(brown Hyaena!) how about Sumatran rhino!?
Cotswold - White lipped peccary or purple faced langur
Howletts - hecks macaque (back on show)

Whipsnade:

Black rhino - easy win as both the previous paddock and house still stand relatively unchanged.

Musk ox - as above, though I have doubts about the house.

Polar bear - because everyone knows they’ve got the space to pull off a high quality exhibit!

African forest elephant.

King penguin

How did I forget Polar bears for Whipsnade?! I think maybe I've given up hope!

West Caucasian Tur - from what I saw of the Takin in the quarry enclosure before everything closed down, they're not going to make as much use of it as the Tur did. I loved watching them.

Believe me, those boys were giving it a good go :p

I am being greedy and selecting both a mammal and a bird for some of my favourite zoos. Most of them are species I would personally love to see again, but I have added a couple of utterly impractical crowd pleasers for the zoos that need them most (marked *).
Tarsiers & yellow-naped macaws → Bristol
Gorillas & slender-billed parakeets → Chester
Smooth otters & New Caledonian crows → Cotswold
Golden cats & ocellated turkeys → Edinburgh
Mitred langurs → Howletts
Sea lions* & blue-crowned lories → London (I know that sea lions won't happen)
Elephants* & ground hornbills → Paignton
Crowned guenons → Twycross
American bison → Whipsnade

Elephant at Paignton - X2 surplus females with an extended paddock? hmmmm?

Good shout on the Ground Hornbills - I was so surprised when they went and their old exhibit looks a right state!

American bison → Whipsnade

That's a good one. I think my last visit a few weeks ago just before the lockdown was the first time I have ever been there without any Bison on the hill- I probably missed going during the approximate six year period they were previously without them. It did seem even more lacking without any.

I realise, obviously, that most of the following would never happen but in my dreams:-

Twycross: spotted cuscus, proboscis monkey, red uakari, Phayre's langur
.
Bristol: tarsier, pacarana, Siberut macaque

Port Lympne: Sumatran rhino, African golden cat

Chester: common hippo, eastern lowland gorilla

Whipsnade: African forest elephant, American bison, Cape buffalo, musk ox, black rhino, polar bear, pronghorn, onager, moose, white-tailed gnu

London: monkey-eating eagle, kagu, shoebill, both species of Picathartes, manatee, giant forest hog, common hippo, takin, Sumatran rhino, Javan rhino, northern white rhino, royal antelope, African water chevrotain, long-beaked echidna....

When you look back over the years and sigh :(
It's crazy to think the current zoo once held so many wonderful rarities.

Clearly certain individuals have a more encyclopaedic knowledge of what London held in the past than others!

Anyone’s list could be endless, and is a clear indication of just how far London has fallen away in the last 30 years. Therefore my wish list is limited to...

Fennec fox
Giant panda
Orangutan
Sealion
Serval
The Aquarium!!!

These are both London but I would prefer it if someone nearer the Midlands picked up the baton.

HUMMING BIRD Walkthrough aviary and

GIANT ARMADILLO but housed much much better than London did it.
