I meant your first post.
Well that wasn't clear from you post, and as for the comment about the Giraffes I was just correcting wrong info that the place keeps on saying a but their Giraffes, despite the fact that it has been excepted within zoo circles that what I posted is correct and has been, for well over 6 years which is long before they brought the potential breeding group in.

How is making fun of me giving me advice?
PLEASE STOP!
I think you are reading more into peoples post,as I'm not seeing any sign of people making fun of you,all I'm seeing is people trying to help broaden your knowledge and you not been prepared to except the fact that they might actually know a bit more than you!

Thank you very much.
Just to say now that your not reading this any more I can finnaly get some peace. Unless one of these other users decide to play the part of the school bully?

I don't feel as though zoogiraffe has done anything particularly wrong, he is a man who is rated very highly in the Zoo community. He only tried too offer you some help with some information which was wrong. I think you have taken this the wrong way, also to note you will probably be banned from the site if you carry on with the abusive language towards other members. It has happened before.

Have you seen 'David Brown's' first post.
Is that his version of being the kindest person on earth?

#Sorry for bringing you back into this David.

I agree with you Jadaway. He has most definitely shot you down here rather than correct you and he has tried to make you look stupid. I see you are new and feel I should warn you that some (by no means all) of the members on here look down on other members due to the fact they have not made many posts. Some of the established members class themselves as 'experts' when really they have little or no more experience that the next person. Don't take anything said on here too personally as it is often people with low self esteem who come on here and take out their anger with the world on newcomers who make the occasional mistake. I have been a victim of it myself on here, but the good that you can get from this site far out ways the bad so stick with it. You are entitled to your opinion as much as the next person.

I don't care how important he is, people just don't have the right to kmake others feel small.
Have you also read the comments that said I didn't want to argue, here is another one: PLEASE STOP ARGUING!

Jadaway. I would listen to Jordan's advice here. He was a newcomer here once too but is now a respected member.

Stay cool and don't read too much hostility in other people's posts when it is not meant.

Enjoy the site.

For the record I did not mean to shoot Jadaway down. We have corresponded about this and hopefully everything is okay now. I made a bad assumption about a zoo giving out really bad information and I need to be careful not to jump to conclusions like that.

Not taking any person's side or opinion here as that would be discourteous and wrong. However, it seems as if the thread as gone off at a tangent and may be time to bury the hatchet on this. ;)

If I may and this is only my opinion and I stand to be corrected if I am wrong of off target here.

Bears are in general both hunters and scavengers and, like most animals and some plants, the same applies. The BBC state in their Nature website: "Scavengers are those carnivorous animals that eat carrion (already dead animals) rather than hunting fresh meat for themselves. Some scavengers, such as African vultures, rely wholly on what they can get this way. Others, such as lions or wolves, are opportunistic scavengers and while they won't pass up a free meal, prefer to hunt their own prey. It's a surprise to many that even some herbivorous species, such as hippos and pandas, are known to scavenge carrion now and then."
& "In spite of their reputation as cowardly scavengers, spotted hyenas are actually highly interesting and intelligent animals. They are efficient hunters that can bring down such large animals as buffalos and zebras. Powerful teeth and jaws enable them to crush and consume bones to get to the nutritious marrow, before the stomach's highly concentrated hydrochloric acid helps digest the bone. Spotted hyenas are often seen in female-dominated territorial groups called clans, in which all males are subordinate to all females. Males leave the clan when they reach adulthood, but females tend to stay and inherit their mother's rank." [www.bbc.co.uk/nature/adaptations/scavenger]

Humans are or were hunters but as we all know that over time humans have most in-part lost the art to hunt, so does that mean they have become scavengers? No; as humans like many other animals adapt, they use what is around them and, if that means hunt or scavenge then that is what happens. Example: Those who live in the slums, unable to fend, feed and have finance, those people will scavenge to survive. Whereas, those who live in regions where survival by means of hunting is the mainstay, such as those north of the Artic, then hunting prevals. Likewise for most animals as the ability to hunt, kill and to scavenge is all there. Plants also doe this. When trees fall, plants etc "hunt" for the best place, the best light in order to survive and, there are plants etc that scavenge. Everything is relative to it's own proximity, and some times the use of symantics, language, prose, grammar can all carry us astray, that includes myself. Likewise, there are NO "experts" here or anywhere, just some people who have more, greater or better experience but not the best. What was your best today is someone else's best tomorrow.

As for the subject of South Lakes, my own opinion, which even after being to the park and having many run-in's with the owner and some others, is still my own opinion. Personally, the park inflates itself on ego and bravado, misleading data and information. The use of mix-exhibits are at best misguided, the use of the land is poor, poor enclosures and some off the cuff enrichment. There are many better animal collections within the UK and there are some very poor ones too.

Again, it would be very polite and cordial that some members stop bickering. Let US all enjoy the fruits and labours of this brilliant web-site and lets ask for some calm, collective and good comments. Afterall, we are all here to learn.

I haven't seen all the deleted posts so I'm not sure what was said, but I don't think anybody on the thread was making fun of you or trying to bully you. For zoogiraffe in particular, be mindful of how you interpret his posts because he puts exclamation marks after almost every sentence which makes it look like he is yelling or telling someone off when that usually isn't the case (no offence intended to zoogiraffe of course). His initial response to you (as I read it, at least) was merely intended to let you know that the giraffes at South Lakes are not what they claim them to be, it wasn't an attack on you personally.

I am closing this thread for the time being. It is neither productive nor encouraging.
