Unless they were bred there in the 1970's, to my knowledge Howletts has never bred hunting dogs. They currently have a small surplus bachelor group, but these only arrived in the last couple of years. Port Lympne had only sporadic success (infanticide, surviving pups removed for hand-rearing) until the late 90's when they finally got it right and started to produced large, mother-reared litters (the last litter was hand-reared, but not due to infanticide).
South lakes may well be able to get hunting dogs, but I suspect they will only be a single-sex group for now. Time is really ticking for the collections with these adult dogs that have so far not bred, it will be interesting to see if the conventional zoo/wildlife park enclosures produce successful litters. I would put money on Knowsley being the next UK collection to join the Port Lympne and WMSP in successfully raising litters of pups.
