Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo Species List

I live in Britian and have watched the little zoo that could on Animal Planet and I would like to know what species they hold that I don't know about.

I know they hold;
Bengal Tigers
Barbary Lion
African Lion
Guanaco
Dromedary
Capuchins
Common marmosets
Fallow Deer
Muntjac
Black Bear
Ring-tailed Lemur
Mandrill
Puma
Leopard
Capybara
monk Parakeet
sulpher crested cockatoo
Umberella cockatoo
Blue fronted parrot
Burmese python
Nubian Goat
Grey wolf
Peafowl
Domestic Poultry
Donkeys
Coati
American Alligator

Do they still hold Yak?

They have quite a few bird species including African Crowned Crane, I think they might still have Emus, and also many parrot species as well.

I am not sure about the Yak but they do have both Ruffed Lemurs babies and Red Kangaroo joeys on loan. I am pretty sure most of their animals are listed on ISIS website but I didn't see Yaks on there.

Not sure if you have seen their website but they are planning on opening the new zoo in 2011. I'm pretty sure the zoo actually only owns 2 bengal tigers while the rest are on loan. But were recently given two to keep, golden and snow white cubs.

They plan on making a large lake that will run diagonally across the property with two monkey islands. Also a smaller lake for penguins. The website says South American but with the zoos budget they are probably African.

There's an aviary, a reptile house, a building specifically for human-animal encounters, a pavilion for animal shows and weddings, an educational building and an area that will house all of the zoo's North American animals, including bears and wolves.

The headline feature is a large tank connected to the tiger pens that will afford an underwater view of the dive-happy Bengals. Once complete, Hall said, the exhibit would be one of three like it in the nation.

I do hope they do something with Umba though. His cage looks very barren and he seems very lonely. I hope he either goes to a new zoo with Mandrills or he gets a mate. The least they could do for him is make him a nice habitat with grass on the bottom. Their other primate enclosures could improve to.

I hope this helps.

Very interesting! I have watched that show also. be interesting to see how things turn out. It would be great if they did a follow up series about the building of the new zoo! the aniamls in the place seem more like pets than zoo aniamls I guess that is why i never researched it anymore than that!

Thanks for the info.
The yaks will have probably gone as the Aoudads went because they were too big and dangourous so I'm guessing the yaks went aswell.

I agree. the whole tameness and pet-like management of the animals, means the zoo certainly doesn't appeal to me. and I can't help but think allowing a member of the public who sponsored a lion (or something like that) to go in and play with the lion is a ickle bit dangerous.

I wonder if they ever found the galago's that escaped?

On the tv series they had a few hand raised Barbary mix cubs. Sorry, I don't think they are pure Barbary lions.

Yeah, that's what I figured. You never know, though. Since I joined this board I've learned that you can, at times, find some hidden rarities at small unknown institutuions.

can i bump this? because i used to love the little zoo that could, i watched it everyday:D, and like foz, i want too know what happened to the Galago's
