Species NOT in captivity that you'd like to see in captivity

If a species must be pulled into captivity, my dream list to see would be:

Saharan Wild Dog
Ethiopian Wolf
Javan Rhino (although I understand it is probably best to keep the remaining in the wild)
Flat-headed Cat
Hirola

I would like to see wild bactrian camel and wild yak brought in, and i know just the park to take them ;)

Wild yak and Bactrians would make an awesome addition. I'd like to see them kept in zoos as opposed to the domestic varieties.

Mountain Nyala, I know it will probalby never happen, but I can dream.

Yes, mountain nyala are a species I would dearly like to see too; I don’t think any zoo has ever had this species other than Berlin Zoo in the 1930s.

I would also like to see Javan rhinoceros and African water chevrotain.......

I think we must expect that most of the new species arriving in zoos will not be these spectacular ones, but the emergency cases. The next may well turn out to be the Madagascar pochard. I hope that many zoos will work hard on the new amphibian habitats that they have been talking about to allow effective conservation of some of the highly endangered (and very interesting) species.

Yes, several frog species are being worked on. Fingers tightly crossed; it'd be a very sad world if there were no frogs!

@Meaghan - (1) What is a saharan wild dog? I've never heard of that. It's not a subspecies of african wild dog (aka cape hunting dog) is it? (2) There are flat-headed cats at zoos in Thailand and Malaysia. But as a cat lover, I would love to see some in western zoos.

Elephant seals for me, and more vairity in pinnipeds. One of the reasons why I dream of visiting Japan one day. I have only seen one elephant seal in my entire life.

One more than me Baldur, as you say they can be seen in a few aquariums in Japan, and northern elephant seals can on occasion be seen as rescue animals in California and Oregon.
Where was the last southern elephant seal kept in Europe?
Was it Stuttgart?

I think zoomarine in portugal have elephant seals? Id love to see mountain Gorilla, I think I will go see them in the wild when I can afford it. I remember hearing of a private breeder in the south of Ireland keeping Russian Desman! I could never find out anymore however!

The last one was in Berlin Zoo, a young Southern specimen, I saw it in 1995 and it died in 2000. Antibes in France had their last one dying not long before, when I visited in 2005they were still marked on the map! Stuttgart had a huge male well into the 1990s but it had died when I visited in 1999.

Japan today has one known marine park with southern ones, but it is not easy to reach for tourists. A huge male died at Enoshima Aquarium around two years ago. Enoshima is close to Tokyo and is easier to reach than the place I mentioned before. Kamogawa had northern ones some ten years ago, but no one knows what happened to them.

Some marine parks in South America have them, particulary in Chile and Argentina. One in Buenos Aires has them in its show along with the sealions.

Vulpes: Zoo Marine in Portugal do not have elephant seals but for years (perhaps still) a Harp Seal.

One of the gorilla's females in Antwerp looks very different to the other, when i was there last year, i was told by the keeper that Amaroho is a pure mountain gorilla, i hope DNA test will show the true, have a look at www.Zootierliste.de you can compare the photos of both females.
