These things are usually something mundane, cats, dogs, raccoons, etc.

I'd guess some kind of raccoon, the teeth are pretty clearly visible so if you're really interested to could identify it by comparing it's teeth with that of other animals native the the area.

Going to go out on a limb and say its an opossum (obviously without fur)- the face seems pointed enough to be one.

I followed lamnas advice and i found this :
coatiskull.jpg

it a coati skull. it is similar to the teeth of that creature .

The jaw was detached and pulled forward to make snout 'longer'.
Claws are too small for coon (coati)- that's a monster opossum! They can be 3 feet long.

Well, if it was found in a regular garden, then it's probably not a space alien or monster from the depths of hell, so the "strange creature" may not be very correct, strange implying something unknown...

I'm saying opossum as well. The picture makes it look like a quite large animal, but that's probably just an optical illusion. But anatomy makes me doubt very much it would be a coati.

That said, I would not initially think "just a regular animal" if I saw that thing in my back garden. It looks relatively creepy with the hairlessness and almost human-like position.

This is certainly an oppossum of some variety - the lack of carnissal teeth in the lower jaw shows it cannot be any carnivoran species.

it is definitely an opossum. The photo makes it look very large but you can get the scale by the flies on the body. Also I suspect the animal has been "manipulated" to make it appear stranger -- especially the way the lower jaw has been dislocated and largely exposed by pulling forward and outward, which doesn't match the state of the rest of the body. It may have been suffering from some form of mange before it died, but it may also have been deliberately shaved (photos and specimens of shaved monkey corpses have been used before as hoaxes for "aliens").

As many others have said- opossum. Though it looks to me as though the people who found it simply, as has been said, stretched the jaw out, as well as seemingly removing the eyes and they probably also positioned it like this. The tail also looks to be cut off and just placed next to the animal and, I don't know if it's just me, but this animal looks as though it was shot a few times. The hairlessness is probably due to mange. The size is just an optical illusion.

This photo cropped up on a friends Facebook the other day and we came to the conclusion it was probably one of the Didelphis species here is a link and a skeleton for reference:)

It looks mummified rather like rats go when poisoned and die in the dryness of a nest when you find them they look a bit like this.

I think if I found it in my garden looking like that I'd have had one hell of a shock!
