Subspecies of tigers and leopards in Japanese zoos?

Hi, does anyone know what subspecies of tigers and leopards are in Japanese zoos?
Our Japan Zoochat regular @AliceLovesTora set up a thread for Sumatran tigers in Japanese zoos. You should find this very helpful.

Not fully in the know about any other tiger subspecies. There certainly are Siberian tigers around in Japanese zoos too: Fukuyama Zoo, Hiroshima Asa Zoo, Kobe Oji Zoo, Kyoto Zoo, Nasu Animal Kingdom, Shirahama Adventure World, Sapporo Zoo, Tokyo Tama Zoo and Toyohashi Zoo.

I suspect there might also be a population of white tigers (but really not sure on this, others with more intimate knowledge of white tigers globally may be better informed).

As for leopards, what I know there is a small population of Amur leopard about: The zoos of Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Kobe, and Yokohama's Zoorasia have them. I seem to remember @PossumRoach quite recently discussed some Amur leopard moves within Japan..., so you might want to check the Japan country threads.

White tigers can be found in both accredited and unaccredited zoos in Japan.

As far as I know there are many more zoos than tbe ones you mentioned which keep Amur leopards. There’s also a small handful that keeps nonspecific or black leopards.

I think that all Bengal tigers outside India are hybrid/crossbreed white tigers ... mostly and certainly hardly or not all pure-bred Bengal tigers.
