Suicide of a Giraffe-calf

Very sad news. The official report has been released but I didn't get the chance to read it. I saw the enclosure in April and it seemed decent; nothing in particular was below European standards. I imagine visitor taunting and some managerial input may have played a part in this story but we'll wait and see.

The only 'baby' Giraffe I know that was three years old...

Do they really believe what they put out about this? Surely it was the result of some sort of panic-type accident instead of 'suicide'. Isn't it a bit ridiculous to suggest that animals such as ungulates/giraffes have sufficient mental capacity to 'commit suicide'?

I'm not sure how much is the Metro's input, how much was altered in translation, or how much of the 'information' was officially released by the zoo. I wouldn't be too surprised if this was what the zoo released, but the other factors aren't unlikely.
