In southeastern China, Syrmaticus ellioti is normally hunted and eaten as "wild chicken".
Due to the lack of proper education, almost every person in China consider "wildlife conservation" the same thing as "panda conservation", and consider the Syrmaticus ellioti the same thing as Phasianus colchicus (because of the two birds' very similar appearances?). The market price for Syrmaticus ellioti in many parts of China is the same as Phasianus colchicus - sometimes for 100¥(=16.43USD)per individual.
