Taiyuan Zoo news
On Dec. 5th, 1957 the first Zoo in Taiyuan was opened in the Heilongtan Park with at first 276 specimen in 71 species. In 1981 the Zoo received the first Giraffe (this animal was born in Beijing Zoo in 1978 and has been the first Giraffe birth in China.

On April, 29th, 2004 the new zoo was opened. This new zoo is 79 ha in size and is located 6 km from the city centre. A special feature of the zoo was the Tiger Park. On July 25th, 2006 this complex was opened and in this 7,6 ha large area the visitors could observe a total of 15 tigers from a bus for a fee of approx. 1,-- Euro.
In November 2012 two African Elephants were imported together with 2 African Elephants for the Xinjiang Tianshan Wildlife Park from Zimbabwe.
In 2014 the Taiyuan Zoo receives 1.0 Asian Elephant "Dong Dong" from Beijing Zoo.

On Oct. 26th, 2016 the Amphibian Crawling Museum was opened. This building is occupied by 304 reptiles & amphibians in 60 species; outside the building are 2 basins for seals and crocodiles.

On May 9th, 2018, the zoo was temporarily closed after massive criticism. Numerous conversions and new buildings were planned. In 2019 the aquarium and Panda Pavilion will be completed (according to the information on the internet the area is four times bigger than the previous building).

On Oct. 1st, 2019 a partial opening of the new zoo took place.
