Full disclosure: I have never been to the Tallahassee Museum, nor do I have plans to go anytime soon. However, I have found the practice of "guest animals" (Animals not native to Florida "visiting" for a while) to be... interesting. So interesting that I have decided to make a compendium of all the guests I could find online!
Unfortunately, an article that had quite the comprehensive list of guest animals has seemingly been wiped off the face of the internet, which means that some guests may potentially be lost to time. However, I do remember some particularly noteworthy ones from said article, and they will be noted as such below. If any Floridian zoochatters would like to help pitch in, you're more than welcome to!
Tallahassee Museum Guest Animals
Cararcal (current guest)
African Civet (2021 guest)
Fennec Fox (2020 guest)
Eurasian Lynx (2019 guest)
Giant Anteater (late 2018 guest)
Red River Hog (late 2017-early 2018 guest)
Asian Small-Clawed Otter (Late 2017 guest)
Amur Leopard (2016 guest)
Texas Cougar (2015 guest)
Two-Toed Sloth
Red-Rumped Agouti
Red-Footed Tortoise
Yellow-Footed Tortoise
Blue and Gold Macaw
Guan (unsure of what kind, but the last six animals were the 2014 guests)
Tiger (early 2013 guest)
Sun Bear (late 2013 guest, the article discussing their arrival was the one that got yoinked and had all the other guests on it)
Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur (summer 2012 guests, found via a Facebook post)
Komodo Dragon (found in a comment under the post with the lemurs)
Nile Crocodile (from the deleted article)
Mandrill (from the deleted article)
Patas Monkey (found via Flickr)
African Lion (mentioned in deleted article, but also in other articles)
Snow Leopard
Persian Leopard (both from deleted article)
Tayra (2011 guest)
Ocelot (was a guest at some point, found via a blog(?))
Lion-tailed Macaque (2007 guest)
"Several unusual bats" (supposedly the guests of 1997)
Sulcata Tortoise (supposedly the museum's second-ever guest, found via Pinterest)
Other animals that may have been mentioned in the deleted article were cheetahs, kangaroos, and binturongs, but I cannot confirm (obviously).
As I said above, contributions (if possible) are welcome.
