Any info at all about this species at Chester? Past, Present, future? I'm Doing a behavioural study of them for my science crest award. Any info would make me very grateful.

What species ( Subspecies) Is Chester's Hybrid pair male? He's not a poillio variety, as he is too dull. Could he be a Hybrid? ISIS registers him as a penelopides panini not a Hybrid.

What happened to the rufous tailed hornbills at chester zoo?
Did they breed at the zoo from 1993-94 or were they at the zoo for that time?
Is their scientific name penelopides manillae subnigra?

Rufous-tailed Hornbill is an alternative name for the Luzon Tarictic Hormbill. (P.panini). The original pair of Tarictics at Chester were held between 1993 and 1994. They never bred. The true Luzon Tarictic Hornbill is the nominate subspecies P.panini panini.

The hybrid female arrived in 2000, and the unidentified male in 2001. This pair produced 2.2 chicks in 2001.

I don't think the male's true identity is known. Possibly he is a hybrid too.

Of course I meant to say the true Visayan Tarictic Hornbill is the nominate subspecies P.panini panini.

That fits with what I've got. I've emailed Bristol, Chester, Los Angeles and San Diego zoos about the penelopides hornbills, and so far Bristol and Los Angeles zoo have got back to me. Chester did send a reply, but it was only telling me that they'd passed my email on to curator of birds.

Rob, is this what Chester's new Tarictics look like?
