Surabaya Zoo Telephone lens is not allowed to be used in Surabaya Zoo

Today spent half day in Surabaya zoo, first time to be there. The overall experience is much better than my expectation.

The main trouble is one security personel stopped me and told me it was not allowed to use Telephone lens (I carried my 100-400mm lense) to take photo in the zoo. Because of the language barrier, he could not explain to me why, just say it is rule and ask me to follow him to office to explain to me. As I almost finished my visit, I didn't want to spend more time on this, just told him I will stop using it, he was OK. So I still have no idea the reason behind
.
Any local friend knows? This is first time I met such issue during my visit to zoo.

Thanks.

This is pure speculation, as I have never been to that part of the world before, but I have read trip reports mentioning special additional fees for telephoto lenses in countries like Indonesia and India.
I believe the logic probably goes that these lenses are not common for local visitors to have and only 'rich tourists' would have them.

Thanks for comments. I have visited few zoos in Indoneisa before, never been asked for before. India, yes, they charge for camera. I agree with you maybe they just want to get some tips. :(
