I read in the Dvůr Králové thread that the Zoo and Tierpark had pulled out of EAZA. What is the story behind this?

That has been the case for quite a while.

I do think / feel under the new management that eventually the Berlin zoo parks will re-join EAZA.

Allthough, I do think / feel EAZA - as it stands - really needs to change its tack .... and organisational structure .... if it wants to be seen to be a truly European zoo organisation.

I get the feeling that there are quite a number who feel that EAZA is overly prescriptive; does anyone else think this as well?

As far as I know neither Berlin zoos left EAZA!

the EAZA site lists both Berlin zoos as being full members: EAZA Membership - Zoos and Aquariums

They left some EEPs as far as I'm aware (e.g. elephants) but I've never heard of them leaving EAZA.
