I was reading about hippos and came across this article:
Biggest Hippo Ever Recorded
It says that there were several giant hippos; "Bertie" at the Johannesburg Zoo who passed in 1957 weighed 4,500 kg the same as "Humphrey" who lived in Kruger National Park. Another male named "Hondo" was 6 ft tall. I can't seem to find any photos of the individuals in the article. Also I'm curious if they ended up in a museum after their death? Anyone have any photos or know what happened to them.I had no idea modern day hippos could get that large. I thought male hippos averaged about 5 ft tall and 5-6,000 lbs and assumed the size of the ones in Planet zoo were exaggerated!
