Den Blå Planet The Blue Planet

The Vari's electric eel isn't around anymore. Beside that i really enjoyed my visit at Denmarks national aquarium. All aquariums look really nice, and most have a large amount of different species. The Faroe bird cliff is an interesting exhibit, one of the few that mixes fish with birds and i liked the way how they build a connection to another part of the danish kingdom. The sea otter exhibit is kind of unlucky from a visitor point of view. The main tank is also pretty good, especially as they managed to hide the tunnel from the main viewing point. The signage was also pretty good for an aquarium.

That's a very new development then, as the aquarium still held electric eel in April!

Very likely, since the surrounding of the tank was still electric eel like. There was a sign at the tank, that there are currently no electric eels and there were a few Mangarahara cichlids which looked a little bit lost at the tank.

Well, that rules out the other possibility :D:p which was that you saw the exhibit was labelled for the "usual" species of electric eel and jumped to conclusions, when IIRC they never actually updated the signage after the species split.

I was also there recently, and the sign says: ‘There are currently no electric eel in the aquarium.’
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that the species is no longer kept in the collection just based on that sign and without further information.

Especially since the species is still listed on the website and in the app (which are directly connected to the aquarium’s information boards). This collection is usually very quick to update their digital signs and app when animals come and go.

So, is this info from aquarium staff, or just based on the sign?

As I suspected, the Electrophorus varii is still kept, but it has been moved to another aquarium according to their website :)
