Mole Hall Wildlife Park The closed Mole Hall

OH no I do hope its not going to be just the same?? Extensive refurbishment programme ?? complete demolition hopefully and restarting from scratch!

Least the chimps are not being brought back to that awful cage and hopefully nothing else will be put in there

o dear! i agree i hope it will become a proper zoo rather than a run down wildlife park with dirty cages and broken enclosures!
will deffinatly visit to see what the new owners have done..... deffinatly get rid of the chimps indoors but keep the outdoor cage of the chimps, as could work for another species ? any ideas?

I have now been informed by mole hall that the johnstone family will be continuing to run the park, and not new owners as thought.

The chimps will def. not be returning to the park.

The park is now open daily, although refurbishment is taking place so many areas will not be accessable.

All of the bird collection is still at the park aswell as deer, alpaca, and paddock animals. Other animals will be returning over the coming months, and new species

Sorry to drag up an old thread but Did the park ever reopen fully? Does anyone known what the site us currently used for?

It did re-open for while with mainly domestic animals, but didn't last long. I know a couple of people who went & weren't very impressed. It was rumoured to be opening again last year, but don't think it has yet. It was very run down, last time I went in about 2006,most of the cages were the same ones that were there in the early 70s, and a lot of them stood empty, beyond repair. What I remembered as once being a serval cage had a few hens in it.

Mrs Pamela Johnstone died recently (2012), in her nineties. For several years there have been rumours that the Park will be re-opening. I'm certain that won't happen now. I do, however, stand by my belief, expressed elsewhere, that someone with some nous (and money) could turn it into a pretty good wildlife park. The land (25 acres with an grand house - Elizabethan I think - surrounded by a complete moat) certainly offers a whole lot of potential. But it needs a John Knowles or a John Aspinall or a Jeremy Mallinson or a Tropeano character to make it work.

I agree that it could have potential, but as has been mentioned previously, it would require almost the whole site to be flattened and rebuilt(most of the enclosures haven't changed since the 70s), which would require someone with a lot of enthsiasm and a few million to throw at it! The problem is it would require a lot to make it even closely rival other local zoos, like Linton or Shepreth and for more of a full day visit, Colchester, London & Whipsnade are only an hour away.
