The deadliest animals in the world

Here is a really cool graphic from the Washington Post showing the world's deadliest animals based on scientific and health data.

Popular culture tells us to be scared of wolves and sharks, but reality tells us that we should beware of mosquitoes, humans, and dogs.

50,000 people a year die from snake bites apparently, if this information is accurate. Being snake-aware (but not snake hating and fearful) is important, and a mission that zoos can take on, if they haven't already.

The most deadly creature on earth

ten people are killed every year by wolves? I would like to see the data on that thanks Washington Post!

If I wanted to be pedantic, "snake" isn't an animal, it is an entire suborder. If I wanted to be really pedantic, I would say that mosquitoes are harmless, it is the parasites they transmit which kill people :p (you know, like that old saying, "guns don't kill people, Chuck Norris kills people").

In fact, shouldn't Chuck Norris be at the top of this table??!

I don't know if the figure is accurate or not, but most people who die from snake bite are in third-world countries (especially Asia I think) and are mostly the result of working in fields barefoot. (Crop fields attract snakes because of the rodents).

I remember reading some WHO stats many years ago that stated that 15,000 die in India annually due to snakebite, so 50,000 worldwide sounds pretty good to me.

:p
