Can't we just agree they are both amazing exhibits? Who cares which has the best landscape design (and, just being picky but, it's Wildlife Conservation Society ;))

What... feeling grumpy tonight are we, redpanda? :D

Since I started the thread/poll that Cat-Man referrs to, I must of course defend him and his current poll! I care who has the best landscaping design! But since my own nominee was Jaguar Cove at Woodlands, I think I will just sit back and enjoy the voting in this poll.... ;)

sheesh. i haven't visited either zoo and judging from the photos i was leaning towards DAK - as that really, really looks authentic.

but then i saw this:

http://www.zoochat.com/photo/bronx-zoo-congo-gorilla-forest-10814.jpg

to produce that in temperate NYC is an amazing feat of artistry.

i guess i'd be wondering what constitutes "better" landscaping. bronx has some amazing, very authentic sculpturing there. but it relied heavily on fakery to achieve the jungle look. it is essentially a dressed-up cold temperate woods.

being in florida DAK can rely more on authentic african plants - though the extent to which they have actually done this i'm not sure. likewise, DAK must reply heavily on sculpture fakery as well...

in any event, i'm gonna leave the voting up to someone who has been....

I don't think these pictures, taken together, adequately show the landscaping of either exhibit. There is SO MUCH MORE going on!

As the person most responsible for the landscape of CGF, I'd like to say that I am a huge fan of the DAK exhibit. I wished I had the climate, space and budget DAK had. (And designers for other zoos have said the same about CGF)

I didn't mind your pole and thought it was a good idea (and voted in it, actually). However when it came up with two excellent winners, I don't see the need to have a "best of the best" show-down. They are both very different exhibits showing very different species (okapi and mandrill are the only animals in both) so why can't we just say the two are amazing?

That, and I was feeling a bit grumpy ;).

Lets just say They are both the best, but now the poll is started, lets let it go on!

In my opinion giving any kind of kudos to that amusement park with animals as a side dish is a total waste of cyberspace. Gorilla Forest hands down...

Visiting both recently, DAK made me feel as if I was on an African Safari, which no other zoo/park had tried. They get the win.

My vote went to DAK'S Kilimanjaro Safari

I know the limited viewing is a bummer, but I stil rank this as the best landscaped exhibit of all time (Congo Gorilla Forest is in 2nd, Arctic Ring of Life is in 3rd and Jaguar Cove is in 4th)
