does anyone know of future plans that include hyena's?(what species?)whats the current hyena situation in the uk? and what zoos do you think should happen to the current situation ie the aardwolves at twycross?:)

good question, marwell and longleat could do with some hyenas, well most uk zoos could actually

The pair of striped hyena at Kessingland have bred in the past, that was a few years ago, but no cubs since, one of the cubs i believe is at Colchester.
Hopefully they will breed again.

i think a large social group of hyenas will look real good at a safari park, though i din't think west midlands have the space

yes they are pretty low on space, maybe they could rid of the wallabies and replace them with hyenas

the wallibys and reindeer could be moved to the discovory cove, and replaced by hyena

i don't think they have any space in the discovery trail either, they might be able to put the wallabies by the przewalksis wild horses

Yeah there are a couple of fields up in that area.
Would Hyena's be Ok with cars though? I suppose they should be, as the painted dogs are.

I thought Knowsley Safari park were planning to house hyenas at some point?

Are the Aardwolves at Twycross and Hamerton related? I know Hamerton bred from theirs some time ago. I'm sure other european zoos still hold some but they are not listed on ISIS.

While there is still a need for African Wild Dog holders, I doubt Hyenas will make a big appearance in the UK, certainly the safari parks are more likely to acquire them, in particular west midland seems to go out of its way to obtain species not necessarily recommended by EEP coordinators and ESB holders.

their aardwolves aren't related! the twycross male is quite old at 16! the hamerton animlas are father, son and daughter..

.

Can i ask, what makes you sure? I'm pretty sure there are none in Germany, The Netherlands, Czech republic, Scandinavia, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland.

So unless some obscure zoo in Portugal/Spain/Italy holds them, there are non?
