Are there photos of Siam (3.20 m high) and Kaveri in Paris-Vincennes together from the late 80s/early 90s? Maybe even mating photos?

I only know of one photo from the end of February 1988, which is shown in the 1999 elephant documentation.

Are there any comparable mating photos with Radza (3.25 m high) and his predecessor's daughters?


Does someone of you have Media in general that contains large adult Bulls mating with young Cows?
It feels like it's impossible to find media like it of zoo elephants.

In African elephants in the wild, older cows have been observed to protect young cowa from overly large (and intrusive) bulls. It is believed that this happens because the heifers could not maintain the weight. So the buckling is probably also a reaction to the bull, possibly because it is either too heavy or it causes pain for other reasons or also as a defense."

I would like to counter what you said with (no offense meant) is more human morality, since for very few people, except for those who know or have dealt with them, it is abnormal for them to witness a young female elephant to be mated by a bull 3 times bigger than her and 5 times as heavy, and going to assume that this must be an unwanted copulation. However, this is commonplace in the elephant kingdom. Which gives me the feeling that some people have already recorded such an act on video or photo, but precisely for the reasons just mentioned they do not publish it. Furthermore (no, I'm not an animal keeper myself) I think I know that one of the older cows only prevents a bull from mating if the young cow is still inexperienced and the bull mounted is not the highest ranking bull they want to mate with and so that the entire act is not too exhausting for the cow, the older cows then intervene. Of course, there are also a wide variety of "lovers" among the bulls, with one being very gentle and the next one very rough, because he for example first puts his front feet standing on top of the cow's back and supports his upper body on her until he is "in position".

If you’re going to copy in people’s content you should reference where it came from and credit the author/source. It also shouldn’t be used merely for the purpose of getting a “reaction” or bumping the thread; but rather for the purpose of a discussion on the content i.e. you want to add something to what they’ve said.

People likely haven’t responded to your question because it is very specific and because it’s been up less than 12 hours - give people a chance. People only comment if they have something of value to add to the discussion, so you won’t get a swarm of comments from people saying “I don’t have a photo of those two elephants from the time period of the late 80’s to early 90’s.”

You can search media by title FYI. That might help you find what you’re looking for. Try searching specific elephants by name etc.
