The BBC is reporting that those clever people at CERN may have found the evidence for the existence of the Higgs boson.

Incidentally the Large Hadron Collider at CERN may be one of the few scientific projects whose most important spin-off came before it was even built and long before this discovery (if it is confirmed). In case you didn't know, Tim Berners-Lee and his colleagues at CERN developed the concepts behind the Internet to handle the mass of data produced by 'big machines' like the LHC.
