Here's a very interesting article about how we have made Earth's oceans 30% more acidic than it was in pre-industrial times. This has happened because of all the carbon dioxide that we have put in the atmosphere and the ocean has absorbed. We're running a giant chemistry experiment on ocean life and how it adapts (or doesn't) to acidifying conditions.

Why should we care? The ocean provides 90+% of our oxygen and a great deal of our food supply. If you like breathing and eating, then this is something you should be concerned about.

I am sure that quite a few people read your articles, so don't worry about that. I try to post a 'thank you' whenever I can, but I am sure that I am not the only one that reads your articles - even though my subsequent comments on the topics are probably not PC.

I think the reason that no one cares is because of this line from the first article:

"Federal and state authorities are searching for ways to cope with a problem whose obvious solution — slashing global carbon emissions — remains elusive. "

The language is too soft, and adds to the apathy that Americans have for:

a. creating a lot of emissions that lead to said ocean acidity and global warming in the first place
b. signing (and sticking to) treaties that limit emissions

I could go on and on, but it will just be regurgitating what the rest of the world thinks about American attitudes toward climate change.

The language is just bad, how can a solution be both obvious and elusive?


But I agree with the general American apathy view, it frustrates me greatly, but it must really frustrate intelligent Americans!
