This Elusive Creature Wasn’t Seen for Nearly 30 Years. Then It Appeared on Camera.

The Silver backed Chevrotain or Vietnamese Mouse-Deer (Tragulus versicolor) has been found after 30 years and photographed by camera traps for the first time. It’s One of the 25 and the fourth lost species after the Wallace’s Giant bee, Fernandína Island Giant Tortoise, and Velvet Pitcher Plant found this year by the Global Wildlife Conservation.

There's a video with the article too, with the author talking about mouse deer and his involvement (as far as the journalism goes). I like this guy - he's not just some random journalist splurging out animal stories to get his paycheck; instead he gives the impression of actually knowing what he's talking about and how interested he is in wildlife.

Good news, although to be honest it really doesn't suprise me as this region of South-East Asia seems to consistently be the place where larger mammals are still being discovered and re-discovered.
