I know this is an old post, but if you can remember what the fish looked like, compare them to Eastern Rainbowfish, juvenile Barred Grunter and Sevenspot Archerfish. All three are common in Lake Eacham and can easily be seen from shore.Lake Eacham
I had a bit of time before feeding started at Chambers so went to Lake Eacham, which is the first place where I saw some wild freshwater fish since coming to Aussie. I just couldn't identify any of them
