Thick-billed Parrot

Does anyone have a picture off the Thick-billed parrot enclosures at Twycross and Edinburgh? I've been checking the galleries but I couldn't find any.

Compared to some enclosures for this species in the US most European aviaries are quite dull. To be fair I have not seen these two and one of them is the studbookkeeper.

Edinburgh fits with the 'quite dull' description in my opinion. Don't think I have any good pics of their out of the way aviary but can certainly get some on my next visit if no one else gets you some first.

I finally got some pictures for you last week and now uploaded to the edinburgh gallery. It's not that bad an aviary and looks like the perches/branches have been updated recently. It's main problem is that its out of the way so most people probably don't see it.

It is actually very suitable for the species and the best aviary I have seen for this species in Europe till now. I have seen the aviaries in Lisbon, Tenerife (the public one they have 2 more pairs at the breeding center) and Arnhem and they are not as suitable as this one.

I've never seen any evidence of breeding in their though sadly (although I'm not sure if they are even a mixed group?)

Annoyingly, all the animal inventories since 2009 have been accessible by members only, so the following information is with the proviso that it is 4 years out of date: the 2009 Inventory for Edinburgh Zoo listed 6,2,0 Thick-billed Parrots at the collection.

If I remember correctly the bred at least ones, but overall the breeding record for this species in Europe is not fantastic.

I know that paradise park in Cornwall has just put a pair together! In a medium sizes aviary that's is nice but a little bare but I know they are showing sighs of nest building! And I think they are picking up another pair in the next couple of weeks! :-D

I know Edinburgh sent a thick bill to paradise park not that long ago and there are more movements planned so it may well be Edinburgh again.

Yeah I first pair came from Edinburgh and the second pair are being picked from Edinburgh right now
