Hi guys!

So I have just started my third year BSc Animal Management degree.. I would really like undertake research into captive elephant management for my dissertation, however I understand this is a vastly wide topic. I am having troubles narrowing down my options, any ideas would be fantastic!

Regards.

You're in the right county; talk to Howletts & Port Lympne -- they have lots of experience, good and bad. They handled bulls when almost nobody else in the UK would try to do so, and could be said to have kick-started Elephant breeding in the UK.
Maybe then talk to Chester, Whipsnade & Twycross. It gets over
Poked, but I think Twycross at the only organisation in the UK to hav successfully sent cow Elephants away to stud (at Chester).
Talk to the people on th ground, then decide what you want to work on.

Perfect advice

Re Twycross, I was trying to say 'it gets overlooked'; spell checker must have gone a bit special.
Sorry about the misprunt.

Those BSc projects are usually very short und you cannot do much meaningful. Regarding elephants most things need some planning in advance, hence u might be too late already. I would recommend to go to your nearest zoo keeping elephants and talk to the people in charge there. Usually they have a list of open questions they want to have answered or they plan a change in management influences of which could be studied.

Good Luck!
