Hi there,

I'm planning a trip to Denmark in July, staying near Copenhagen. Obviously I have the zoo on my list to do but was wondering about the aquarium within Tivoli Gardens, the website doesn't provide a lot of information, I understand that it an extra charge. Can anyone give me any more information, is it worth the small extra charge?

There might have been some minor changes since my last visit but it is essentially one long aquarium with 270 000 liters that mimics a coral reef. I'm fairly sure it is fish-only but it might be FOWLR. There are also 3 (or something like that) small aquariums that have had changing inhabitants. It really depends on how much you care about seeing the large tank. If you're a big fan of fish, go for it because it's less than 2½ £. If you don't care much about fish and/or have visited many aquariums before, you won't lose anything by skipping it. If you have the time and care about aquatic animals you should visit nearby Blå Planet instead with its olive sea snakes, hammerhead sharks (still small) and sea otters but try to avoid the weekend crowds and remember your mobile phone (they're supposed to get new interactive signs+app this summer).

going to den blå planet denmarks national aqvarium from 2012 behaind the airport in copenhagen mutch bigger and lager than tivoli. Going also to copenhagen zoo the have many animals from over the world..

I would say that if you are planning to go to the Tivoli Gardens anyway, it's worth spending the little bit extra to see the aquarium. Especially if you can hit one of the feeding times, which are usually posted in the gardens daily programme. But otherwise, as an aquarium, the Blue Planet is much much better. (But there are other attractions to Tivoli, of course).
 
I visited the aquarium today.
It appears to be a nice set - up consisting of three tanks in the basement of the concert hall: the main (30 metre long) reef tank housing many fish, including some interesting specimens like a bonnethead shark; a small tank for a common octopus, a similar tank for red - bellied piranha, and a standard coral reef tank. The three smaller tanks are not much bigger than large home aquariums.
Only the main large tank is worth going out of your way for. Dubbed 'Europe's longest saltwater tank', it is quite a nice tank to view. I'd say the £2.50 fee to visit the aquarium is definitely worth it even for this tank alone, but if you're paying the additional £10 Tivoli entry fee exclusively to visit the tank then I'd be a bit more cautious. The gardens are quite nice though, even if you don't go on the rides, and if there's nothing better on your itinerary then it might be worthwhile to visit Tivoli anyway.
As others have said, the blue planet aquarium (and Copenhagen zoo) definitely take priority!
 
Im a bit sickened about this! Ive been Tivoli TWICE in the last 18 months and didn't even know it was there.I love the place and to think I could've added to my total as I thrust towards the 700! Where in the gardens is it?
 
Sorry to hear that Tim, I know how frustrating it is to narrowly miss collections!
The aquarium is underneath the concert hall. There's a sign outside one of the concert hall doors; you can then buy an aquarium ticket at the desk inside and go downstairs.
