I have found this article on website of Cologne zoo:

I dont understand much with my German skills but it is a new study of best large zoo (more than 1 million visitors per year) in Europe.

I think the chart looks fine for me. There are really good zoos. I would change the order of zoos....but this wouldnt be objective chart, because I see zoos from the point of view of zoologist (so I look for the interesting species in interesting houses and enclosures) not from the visitors point of view (admission, fun, food, playground for children, touch animals)

Personaly think Burgers is far superior to Zurich.

Strange. No French zoo in top 10? Several are extremely good.

No Emmen, Berlin Tierpark, Plackendael, Wuppertal, Dvur Kralove? Each is much better than Basel or Copenhagen...

Would people agree this zoo is great?

Well, it is surprisingly good and modern considering that most people think that all Austria is dusty imperial museum , but not really great. It has pandas, koalas, breeding african elephants, indian rhino complex, tropical house, historic buildings, but each of these has some flaw - too small, ugly, badly presented etc.

No Emmen, Berlin Tierpark, Plackendael, Wuppertal, Dvur Kralove? Each is much better than Basel or Copenhagen...

It was said only zooswith more than one milion visitors per year were in the study. Dvur Kralove certainly dont have so much visitors and I am not sure about the others.

I was in Tiergarten Schonbrunn few times and I have to say it is not number one zoo for me. But they have very attractive animals for visitors in very attractive surroundings and new buildings also historical buildings. I always say to the people in Bratislava. Would you like to visit any zoo? Go to Vienna, there is great zoo for you. They have all the animals you would like to see. Panda, koala, elephant, giraffe, zebra, rhinoceros, pinguin, seal, aquarium, tropical house, pet zoo. And common visitor is very satisfied. Also Schonnbrun is still improving...that is very important.

I dont think too big enclosures are so attractive for common visitor. They cant see animals in big enclosures or they are very far. My friends were in Tierpark Belin and they told me: It was boring. Too big enclosures...you just walk and walk lon time, and when you see big aviary you are happy you will see so many birds...but there was just one species og vulture...boring.
