Does anyone know where the Komodo dragons came from? I was a bit surprised to see a poll for naming options. I thought the zoo usually (but not always) maintained names when they arrived from another facility.

I came here looking to see if anyone knew! I find it very odd that they don't already have names, especially when she looks like an adult animal.

I believe it’s the San Antonio Zoo. Toronto applied for a permit to get two Komodos from there early this year (I think it’s posted in one of these channels), and the ages of the dragons align with the ages of the hatchings San Antonio had.

The komodos should have come from San Antonio. A sibling pair was chosen for us.

Just caught myself up and found out about Petal, now I'm sad I didn't get to see her one last time since I wasn't able to visit the zoo this year... ;w;

Also, I saw the zoo's site has the African spurred tortoise and Mandarin duck marked as not viewable, as opposed to temporarily not viewable, did something happen to them? :c

I think the spurred tortoise is a seasonal thing - I believe he’s only viewable either in the kids zoo, or outside the African pavilion. I don’t think he has an indoor, viewable habitat.
The ducks I’m not sure about since I didn’t think the zoo had had any for a few years. It could be a situation like the moose or the Komodos before the new ones came where animals which the zoo does not currently have, but plans to acquire more of are just listed as “Not Viewable” but I really don’t know.
