Excellent Thread! We can probably add the Year of the Frog and Year of the Gorilla to it! www.torontozoo.com <<has more info on the site!

Thanks, yes we can :)

When I was there yesterday I saw that the Canadian Domain was closed. Didnt go down to see what was going on, though. Did they remove the animals from that section already?

Oh no! :( I really hope its not already the end!

I would think they would wait a few years but there were the rumors about it closing after Tundra Trek

Omg, are you serious! Was there a sign there Meaghan? How was it blocked?

Yes, the Domain has been closed for most of this week ... but it's not what any of you are thinking!!!! Last week we had a major power outage at the zoo. The were able to restore power to most of the site, but the loop which supplies the Domain (as well as the giraffe house) has been posing some problems. The Domain has been closed since there is no electricity (lights, hand driers, etc.) in the washrooms at the bottom!

Phew, thats a relief... I thought they had closed right up on me

LAST WEEK FOR STINGRAY BAY, FOR POSSIBLY EVER! I will miss this.

I don't suppose there are any other kinds of interactive exhibits like sting ray bay that they could bring in after its gone? Being able to pet those crazy little guys was one of the best parts of visiting the zoo.

I have only touched the sharks once and it was recently to Meaghan. I haven't heard of any other interavtive exhibit comming. The zoo may be bringing in Penguins and housing them in the Group Events Tent.

OOO, yet another exciting development, alothough would the group event tent be too small?

I would think, but again there old exhibit wasn't any bigger. By the time the zoo recieves them the seal exhibit might already be renovated due to the long waiting list!

It seems kind of weird to me that they would get rid of the Sting Ray Bay. At $3 per ticket and how busy it always seems to be I would think it would more then justify its cost (though I could be entirely wrong). Is it more just the Sting Ray's have to eventually move on and can only stay at the Toronto Zoo for so long?

The stingrays have to be shipped back to the U.S. every fall, and they would have to come back every spring. This all costs money as well as having them year round. They were neat while they were here but their only soul purpose was to bring attendance up from having polar bears absent for 3 years.

Fair enough, I could see how that could get fairly expensive having to ship them in and out each year. I guess if I want to see them again I will have to expand my horizons a bit.

Yes indeed! I would recommend traveling as I love to do it, and you learn a great deal of information that way!

My current plan is do go down for a vacation to New York next spring and check out the Bronx Zoo (among other things). Currently I have only been to Toronto Zoo (other then vague memories of another zoo I may have visited when I was young down near Cedar point). It will be nice to have something to compare the Toronto Zoo to.

Yea it would be my dream to go to the Bronx, I am trying to convince my family to go to New York next summer, I will see how that goes.
