I will be sad to see him go, he was one of those animals that visitors didn't really to take the time look at, because he didn't move too much lol. He still fascinated me and was always a favourite of mine. Happy he is getting a larger exhibit down in Florida and hope he lives a happy life down there, miss ya bud.

He was one of the hidden gems of the zoo; those animals are among my favorites. It's sad seeing them being overlooked but I don't miss the orangutan/gorilla size crowds.

It was said on here another turtle species was going in his exhibit, does anyone know what species will take his spot there?

Maximus has been on a surplus list for 4 years now so the move has been planned for a while. There will be a South American turtle species replacing him, as to what species I am not sure of.

To the changes being done to the caracal lynx exhibit, African crested porcupines will soon be accommodating that exhibit.

Here are some changes I noticed when at the zoo today:
- Marine room (americas) finally starting to open, they tanks are there filled with water so hopefully animals will be in their soon, it has taken them a while for this.
- Changes to aviary (americas) trees are gone :s
- Missing Caimans (americas) only 1 on display?
- Snapper is gone to jacksonville zoo
- Spiny softshell back in his original exhibit (bug wing)
- Redside dace off exhibit, possibly dead, only 1 specimen?
- Some exhibit changes in australasia
- Penguin exhibit well underway, lots of construction
- Giraffe exhibit construction?
- A few trees have been taken down in the caracal exhibit, but that is it for changes
- Warthog exhibit changes, baby proofing of electrical fence?
- African Pavilion opening soon. Possibly early Jan, planting seems to be done, only final touches left I think?
- Red River Hog exhibit changes
- African picnic site reno
- A variety of new birds in indo (front aviaries in pavilion)

Was at the zoo yesterday, just thought I'd add to Quartz' report:

- Crested Porcupines are here now. According to the 'white board' at the front, they are in the caracal exhibit but they were off display
- Lots of construction going on. Sumatran Tiger exhibit fencing, Gorrilla outdoor fencing, and the gardens/public area around Indian Rhino house, and the path travelling to the Mayan Temple were being worked on
- The single Snapping turtle that was in the old Spiny softshell exhibit is now occupying the older Alligator Snapper exhibit
- Beavers were really active, chasing ducks that had landed in their water
- All 3 otters were on exhibit together
- The Short-Beaked Echidna in the Australasia mixed exhibit was very active too. The Wallabys were being trained as well with a whistle and treats
- Himalayan Monal Pheasants that were in the "bald Eagle" exhibit at the entrance have been moved to Malayan Woods
- Another Fly River Turtle has been added to the Billabong in Australasia

I shall keep my eye out for the new changes!

Another change that I noticed from my last visit, it seemed that they dulled the colouration of the fake coral in the Australasia oceans tank (unless this dulled with time). I didn't think it looked bad before, but I think it's an improvement as it looks more natural.
