I went to the Chula Vista nature center today for the first time. It is now called the living coast discovery center, cost $14 and is not very big or impressive.
They have a turtle lagoon with 2 green sea turtles.
There was a shark exhibit with leopard sharks, grey smoothhound sharks, swell sharks, shovel-nose guitarfish, and bat rays.
Then they had a burrowing owl exhibit and a marsh exhibit with clapper rail, snowy egret and a black-crowned night heron.
The best part was there raptor row with golden and bald eagles, ferruginous hawk, red tailed hawk, red shouldered hawk, osprey, peregrine falcon, turkey vulture, barn owl, great-horned owl, short-eared owl and an American kestrel.
Inside they had three gopher snakes, two moray eels, one California lobster, two crabs, several species of sea stars, moon jellies and an octopus.
Overall the place is not that great and we only were there for an hour and we saw and read everything they had. They docent was complaining that they just can’t get any funds to build what they want to build since everyone donates to the SD zoo. Personally I think it would be best if they would be taken over by sea world or the zoo since they have a lot of potential and beautiful scenery, they just need lots of money.
