2:0 lynx have arrived at the park. They will be revealing the species soon, I think these maybe the European lynx cubs from Whipsnade.

I think that it is the two European lynx cubs from Whipsnade. Just looking at the Trotters website and the two female Canadian lynx have gone to Parc Des Felines.

Is that Trotters (and effectively the UK) gone out of Canadian Lynx then? If so that's quite of a loss.

Trotters is becoming rather eclectic- Vicuna, Black wildebeest, Mandrills, what next?:)

They also have Fishing Cats and Eurasian lynx as well as Grant's (I think) Zebras. I think they have a nice small collection maybe Penguins, always seem to be popular.

they have no penguins but they do have servals, tapirs, gibbons, lemurs, wild boars, meerkats, oters and much more.they've also got 3 coati recently and have put them in the old red panda enclosurehttp:

I hear that trotters is changing its name to Lake district wildlife park.

Funny, I clicked to comment that I think the name is unfortunate as it always conjures up some dodgy set up with the animals being obtained from a bloke in a reliant robin.

I believe that trotters have a African exhibit under construction, scheduled to be finished in the easter.

I don't know of any animals, but I will update when I find out

Quote from facebook: "We are working on an African plain with water hole so will be mixing a few of our animals together- aiming to be ready for Easter but the weather has made digging a real nightmare. We have started some planting so watch this space and we'll tell you more soon."

Black Wildebeest.

The fact that they're collecting a male makes me wonder if they lost their original one.

I read it that they still have the male (see photo of 19th Feb also) so will be getting another female? It does sound like they have lost one though.

Have Marwell bred another since the one that already went to Trotters? Or have they recently lost one of theirs too?

Or does 'South Coast' mean Newquay?

That's a good theory, the answer is I just don't know. There has been nothing on their facebook, and that is the only place I can find news.

And for the 'south coast' that could mean newquay or marwell

This is the quote from the website

"Richard is off to collect a new friend for one of our African species from the south coast on Monday." and there is a picture of a wildebeest.

This suggests that they are getting another wildebeest for the collection (no mention of whether it is male or female).

They originally had 2 animals, 1 male and 1 female, and as far as I'm aware there is no reason to suggest one has died or left the collection. If anyone has any information to the contrary please post it.

So as I understand it Trotters will be home to 3 black wildebeest when the new one arrives.

I hope that's the case as it would be good to see somewhere trying to build up a larger group of these rather than just the pair situation.

We'll just have to wait for someone to post which theory is correct.

Of course I'll post when I find out, which will be in 5 weeks if there's nothing from the media.
Anyway, If they try to get a larger group, they should probably move to the new 'african waterhole' exhibit, or one of the larger paddocks in the park
